We've had a very eventful and exciting year.

Our efforts to acquire a pemanent beer license for the Mission quadplex has resulted in KASA being contracted by the city to manage all beverage services in the beer gardens and concession.

Speaking of the concession, we have new and enthusiastic operators who brought along some great ideas and a much improved (and healthier) menu. Speaking of 'healthier', be prepared for yet more Orwellian policy directives from the City as they begin implementing their very flawed and dangerously short-sighted 'Healthy Choices' program. I'm beginning to think that 'free enterprise' and 'entrepreneurial spirit' are distasteful concepts to a few of the City of Kelowna's personnel.

We still enjoy a good rapport with all other local sports organizations, SportsKelowna and the City of Kelowna Leisure Services Department. We continue to be involved in the decisions regarding sports facilities and the policies governing same, and have convinced the City to revisit the field allocation principles with a view to more balanced and practical scheduling of our prime fields.

We should soon see the start of construction of another two (possibly three) full-sized, lit and fenced softball diamonds right across the street from the existing quadplex. The design and budgets are being finalized as we speak, and preliminary ground preparations are already underway. If all goes as planned, the new fields will be available for play by the Spring of 2008.

Our expanded list of tournaments continue to be well attended. We still enjoy a very favourable reputation for putting on some great softball weekends, and---on the heels of several very successful and well-received SPN Championships---we look forward to hosting more Regional, Provincial and National events. Now that the NSA has a foothold in our region, perhaps we will be seeing a few of their tournaments and championships as well.

The KASA Board of Directors deserve enthusiastic kudos for all for their hard work and commitment. With so many more big things coming up, I hope we can count on their continued support.

To that end, we are actively recruiting new members for our 'core' group with the hope that we can attract some fresh and energetic faces.

All in all, 2006 was another fine year. I am confident 2007 will be better still.
